What are the Kansas Caucuses?
The Kansas Caucuses are organizational gatherings of neighbors, run by the Kansas Democratic Party, where Democrats meet to conduct party business and declare their Presidential preference. Democrats gather to elect delegates to the Congressional District convention and address key issues important to their communities.
How many caucuses will take place across Sedgwick County?
There will be 7 caucuses across Sedgwick County, one in each Senate District (25, 26, 27, 28,29, 30, and 16).

Who can participate in the caucuses?
Any person who is eligible to vote in state of Kansas and who will be 18 years old on Election Day, November 8, 2016, may participate in the Kansas caucuses. These individuals must reside in the Senate District in which they wish to participate, and they must be registered as a Democrat. Voter registration and party registration is available on the day of the caucus.
Can press and other non-participators attend?
Yes- all caucus locations are open to the public and press.
How do the Democratic Caucuses work?
All attendees must register from 1:00-3:00 p.m., everyone must be in line by 3:00 p.m. in order to participate. Eligible caucus goers divide to form Presidential preference groups. If a preference group does not have enough people to be considered “viable,” 15% of total caucus goers, eligible attendees will have an opportunity to join another preference group or acquire people into their group to become viable. Delegates are then awarded to the preference groups based on their size.

To check your registration status and find out your Senate District, click HERE. Under “District Name” find the line that says “Kansas Senate” and use the number next to it to find your location below. Caucus locations are NOT the same as polling locations.

Election Day 2016 is a year away. It seems so far away, but it will sneak up on us all. Do you know if you’re ready to vote?
Visit VoterView to make sure your address and party are correct (you must be registered as a Democrat to participate in the presidential caucus in March and the primary in August). If you need to update your address or party, you can do so online here. Did you know when you move, you have to update your driver’s license address? When you do, you can automatically update your voter registration if you change your address online. Make sure to change your registration address: if you cancel your old registration, you will have to register all over again and have to provide proof of citizenship. Make sure your registration is up to date!
If you or someone you know isn’t registered in Kansas, you can register online or fill out a paper form (PDF). You can also register to vote at the DMV. Whichever way you choose to register to vote, you will have to provide proof of citizenship. If you were born in Kansas and need a copy of your birth certificate, you can fill out a request (PDF) and mail it in. Make sure to request a free birth certificate (PDF) if you are using it only so you can register to vote. These links only work if you were born in Kansas. Make sure to check out other valid proofs. Make sure to start now on registering. It might take some time to gather the correct forms and submit them. You will have 90 days from when you turn in your form to send in your information before your suspended registration could be purged.
